The Power of Touch for Health and Relaxation
Terminology of Reflexology

The American Standard of Reflexology is "The technique of thumb and finger walking and hook-in and back-up".

The American Reflexology Certification Board (ARCB) , the National Council of Reflexology Educators (NCRE) and the Reflexology Association of America (RAA) define Reflexology as follows:

Reflexology is a method of manual techniques, such as thumb and finger walking, hook in and back-up, and rotating on a point, applied to specific reflex areas involving reflex maps resembling the human body found predominantly on the feet and hands. The techniques applied stimulate the complex neural pathways linking body systems and supporting the body's efforts to function optimally.

The three primary benefits of Reflexology are:

  • Reflexology promotes balance and normalization of the body naturally;
  • Reflexology reduces stress and brings about relaxation; and
  • Reflexology improves circulation and the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the cells.

Disclaimer: Reflexology is NOT intended to replace conventional medical care. Reflexology is a unique modality in the complimentary alternative health field, promoting better health and well being. Reflexologists do NEVER diagnose, prognosticate, prescribe or adjust, nor treat or cure any specific medical disorder.
